Jeg har anskaffet en Samsung (YP-K3) mp3-afspiller, som jeg ikke kan få
til at virke i ubuntu. den kan køre på husets anden pc (WinXP) og virker
helt der.
Min ubuntu kan ikke se den overhovedet.
Kan nogen her hjælpe?

USB, Bluetooth eller hvad? Ubuntu popper da ellers op med "Lagerenhed"
til ligemeget hvad på USB.

Det er usb, og det undrer også mig, at den ikke opdager den ny enhed -

Når jeg sætter den i et usb-stik, tænder mp3'en og viser, at den er
fuldt opladet, men så sker der ikke mere.
Som sagt kører den ok på husets anden pc med WinXP. På denne pc, der
både har WinXP og ubuntu virker hverken i det ene eller det andet
styresystem.

En standard mass storage MP3-afspiller giver:

bInterfaceClass 8 Mass Storage
bInterfaceSubClass 6 SCSI

"Vendor Specific" betyder at der skal bruges en speciel driver, i
modsætning til "Mass Storage" der betyder at det bare virker.

Det er kun en halv sandhed. Jeg har en ældre Samsung, der optræder som
et mass storage device, men man skal desværre lige have noget software,
der kan bygge et index på den før man kan vælge musikken.

Er der ikke noget med at iPod har samme problem? Anyway, så virker
det jo netop - som mass storage. Man kan jo stadig bruge den til
at overføre filer.

(Jeg har fx et par ssh keys på min MP3-afspiller. Det er det nemmeste
sted at have den slags, når man skal logge ind fra remote).

Når jeg bruger USB Viewer, kan ubuntu se, at der er en Samsung YP-K3
afspiller, MEN jeg kan ikke finde ud af at mounte den.

Jamen så var det jo nok værd at undersøge om usb porten virker. Hvad sker
når du kører WinXP på samme maskine?

Hvad siger lsudb og dmesg? En grim måde, der måske kan hjælpe er at køre
killall hald som root og prøve igen. Så vil den dog ikke selv poppe op, men
du vil kunne se den med lsusb og dmesg. Jeg har været ude for en USB
lagerenhed der ikke kunne sammen med HAL og crashede når den blev
tilsluttet. Genstart maskinen bagefter, så du er sikker på at virker som
det skal.

Jeg har løst problemet lidt ved at skifte min lidt obskure WinXP ud med
en licenceret udgave. Det betyder, at jeg kan bruge min mp3 på min egen pc.
Så mangler jeg bare at få den til at virke under ubuntu!

Jeg har nu fået hul igennem til mp3'eren af flere veje:
1) jeg opgraderede min WinXP til WinVista, hvor den kører uden problemer
2) jeg gik fra ubuntu 6.10 til 7.10, hvor der viste sig muligheder
(efter en del søgen rundt), som gør at jeg nu kan hente podcasts til
afspilleren. Jeg bruger Amarok.
De første gange meldte Amarok fejl ved "automontering af deveice", men
jeg søgte i Synaptic på "mp3" og "podcast" og fandt nogle ting, der fik
det til at virke.
Atter må jeg sige tak for god og gidende assist til i dett forum til en
ældre herre.
