Doomsday cancelled ?

No, Doomsday is unfortunately not cancelled, it is only postponed.

It was considered by many that the Syrian revolution during 2011 would
lead the Syrian government into a blind alley, from where they would
only see one way out projecting the conflict into Israel, which in its
turn would quickly spiral into a global cataclysm.

At the present moment, however, the Syrian opposition forces led by
the defectors from the Syrian army are apparently too weak to be
reckoned as a serious threat to the Syrian government, cf Ammar
Abdulhamid’s assessment:

http://www.syrianrevolutiondigest.blogspot.com

With the determination of the brave and increasingly politically
conscious Syrian people and the rising number of defectors this
vulnerability will probably decrease during 2012. There is no way back
for the murderous Assad government.

On the other hand it seems president Assad and his advisors cannot
imagine a Syria without the neopatrimonial system led by his family,
their cronies, and the Baath party and so the armed conflict in Syria
will probably only intensify next year.

There is already a considerable spillover from the Syrian conflict
into Lebanon, which exactly means we cannot expect the Syrian
revolution to be contained within the borders of Syria.

Thus there is still a high risk of Doomsday occurring in 2012 as a
consequence of the uncompromising Syrian government’s fierce collision
with its not less intransigent and increasingly strong opponent
resulting in a spillover into Israel.
