VW DSG Transmission Problem Leads to Recall
By Christopher Jensen
Volkswagen is recalling 13,500 of its 2009 and a few 2010 models because
of a problem with its fast-shifting DSG automatic transmission. The
vehicles covered are the Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, and Eos built
between September 2008 and August 2009.
“A small number of these may be affected by a faulty temperature sensor
in the DSG transmission,” Volkswagen said Thursday. “Failure of the
temperature sensor could result in illuminated warning lamps in the
dashboard, and in rare instances the transmission may shift into
neutral.”
In July the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration began a
defect investigation into the DSG on those models after consumers
complained to the agency about a loss of power while driving. That
investigation covered 2008 and 2009 models. Rae Tyson, a N.H.T.S.A.
spokesman, said the investigation would not be closed until the agency
is sure there is not a problem with the 2008 models, too. However,
Thomas Wegehaupt, a spokesman for VW, said the automaker has determined
the 2008 models do not have the problem.

Anybody who bought a Volkswagen in North America in the past year with a
DSG gearbox will want to keep an eye on their mailbox in the coming
weeks for a note from the home office in Herndon, Virginia. It seems
there is an issue with a temperature sensor in the dual clutch
transmission. Problematic sensors can give erroneous readings that cause
warning lamps in the cluster to turn on or send the transmission into
neutral.
The quick-shifting DSG is a popular option in the Jetta sedan,
Sportwagen, GTI and Eos convertible. A total of 13,500 cars built
between September 2008 and August 2009 are being brought in for
inspection and possible repair. You can check out the complete VW press
release after the jump.

PRESS RELEASE:
Volkswagen of America Announces Voluntary Recall
HERNDON, Va., Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ -- Volkswagen of America, Inc.
announced today a voluntary recall involving 13,500 vehicles equipped
with its DSG transmission. Models affected by the recall include the
Jetta, Jetta SportWagen, GTI, and Eos built between September 2008 and
August 2009.
The recall applies to 2009 model year vehicles along with a very limited
number of 2010 model year vehicles. A small number of these may be
affected by a faulty temperature sensor in the DSG transmission. Failure
of the temperature sensor could result in illuminated warning lamps in
the dashboard, and in rare instances the transmission may shift into
neutral.
In the coming weeks, owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted
by Volkswagen of America to schedule an appointment at their local
dealer to have their vehicle inspected, and if necessary, have the
vehicle repaired.
Som jeg læser det, er min Touran for "gammel" til at have disse
problemer (årgang 2006) og Golfen der er på vej, er med 7 trins kassen,
der ikke er berørt af problematikken.
