Question regarding sailing law in Danmark
Fra : jarek@srv.pl

Dato : 26-12-05 23:29

Dear sailors!

Sorry for english, but I don't know danish at all.

I'd like get answer for few simple questions about sailing regulations
in Danmark. We are trying to convince our regulator to liberate law
about sailing in Poland. For this I'm collecting informations about
rulings in other countries. If you be so kind to give me few answers
I'll be very glad!
1. Is the yacht registration obligatory in Danmark ? Does it depends on
size, speed, engine power ? How about small pleasure boats ?
2. If the yacht is registered, is it required to perform periodical
checks ?
2. Is it required to have any licence to sail on inland/offshore waters
?

best regards
Jarek

No

No registration unless you want to the bank to finance your boat, or the
boat is bigger than 20 GT (around 15 meters)

How about small pleasure boats ?

No regulation

> 2. If the yacht is registered, is it required to perform periodical

If more than 20 GT, Yes

> 2. Is it required to have any licence to sail on inland/offshore waters

If boat bigger than 15 meters you need navigational education, or if small
boat with big engine - special rules with size of boat compared to engine
size (= high speed) then you need at "drivers license".

No, Calle, he's right. No obligation to register ships under 15 meters. It's
the skipper that need a certificate to sail it.

That´s OK. You are welcome.
I´ll give you answer after the best of my knowles.

For Yarcht under 15 meter, no registration is obligatory.
Unless it is used for charter.

How about small pleasure boats ?

Same af above.

> 2. If the yacht is registered, is it required to perform periodical
> checks ?

Yes. If its used for charter, or over 15 m in length, and therefore
registrered.

> 2. Is it required to have any licence to sail on inland/offshore waters

No.
You don´t need any kind of license for sailing boats, as long as it´s under
15 meters in lenght.

If it´s a so called speed-boat, you need a kind of "driver-license".

Good luck with your work for better regulations in your lovely country.
I am sure, many yachtsmen would appriciate, if it would bee possible, to
change the state of affairs regarding entering your country with a yacth.
As now, it can be a bit "tricky"
But never the less: I hope to cruice your Baltic shores in the ´summer 2006.

Best regards
Egon Stich

Hello!

Thank you for all answers! We still have old communist law, invented
to stop sailors to escape to the West! Finally, there is a chance to
change it (I hope!).

I think, that the most problematic issue is the number and quality of
marinas. But this is strictly related to the number of sailors. Due to
the strong requirements, it is very expensive to have a yacht with
permitions to offshore sailing, so the number of such yachts is quite
small. At the moment the requirements regarding registration and
periodical checks are almost same for small yachts and big commercial
ships. We hope, that liberation will increase number of yachts, and
number of marinas!

Good luck! I have already visited about 30 Danich marinas in last 15
years, and I'm always impressed by they number and facilities!
Anyway, if you lik get any information about any marina in Poland send
me a mail or visit newsgroup pl.rec.zeglarstwo - english is not a
problem.
