Censorship in Finland
Fra : Per Rønne

Dato : 24-09-05 16:27

To-day, the Danish newspaper Jyllandsposten {it is from Jutland} has an
editorial:

http://www.jp.dk/meninger/ncartikel:aid=3281018

where it mentions that the Somali-Dutch politician Ayaan Hirsi Ali has
written a book which is very critical against islam and contains
passages that are strongly negative about the prophet Muhammed.

It also says that several of the book's translators have decided to be
anonymous - they don't dare risking the same fate that happened to a
Japanese translater and a Norwegian publisher of Salman Rushdie's
"Satanic Verses" {the Japanese was shot dead, the Norwegian survived the
attack - both were attacked by Islamic fanatics}. So the German and
French translators are - anonymous.

In Finland it has even been decided to remove parts of the book although
the author protests. Censorship in Finland?

In Denmark we have recently seen that three illustrators have declined
invitations to illustrate a new children's book on Muhammed's life. The
publisher, however, found a fourth illustrator who was willing to do it
- anonymously.

What is happening to our countries?

FUT soc.culture.nordic {can be overruled, of course}
