Computer restart is slow after installing Common Client 1.09 update
Situation:
You ran LiveUpdate and downloaded the Common Client 1.09 update. After
restarting the computer, you notice that it takes much longer for Windows to
open than it did before you installed the update.

Note: The information in this document applies to Symantec 2003 and earlier
products only. Symantec 2004 products, such as Norton AntiVirus 2004, are
not affected by this problem, as they shipped with Common Client 2.0.

This is a known problem with the 1.09 patch. It is solved by manually
updating the Common Client Event Manager with the 1.03 version included with
this article.
Check your version of ccevtmgr.exe. If everything is correct, it should be
version 1.03. If it is not, download the replacement file, stop the ccEvtMgr
process, and then move the downloaded file to the Symantec Shared directory.
This corrects the problems that cause slow startup.
Follow the procedures in the order given.
To check your version of ccEvtMgr
1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared.
3. Right-click ccEvtMgr.exe > Properties.
4. The Version tab lists the current version of ccEvtMgr.
To Stop the Event Manager service
You must have administrative rights or be logged in with the administrator
account to perform this action.
1. Click Start > Run > Control Panel > Administrative tools > Services.
2. Scroll down until you locate "Symantec Event Manager."
3. Right-click Symantec Event Manager, and then click Stop.
4. If Norton Internet Security or Norton Personal Firewall is installed in
addition to Norton AntiVirus, a dialog box opens, asking if you want to stop
other services and it lists Symantec Proxy Service. Select Yes.
To replace ccEvtMgr.exe
1. Download version 1.03 of ccEvtMgr.exe.
2. Open Windows Explorer.
3. Navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared.
4. Locate ccEvtMgr.exe, and rename it to ccEvtMgr.bak.
5. Move the 1.03 version of ccEvtMgr.exe that you downloaded to this
folder.
6. Restart the computer.
