(Sorry for the English, but I can understand replies in Danish -- I just
can't write)...

I live in Denmark now and I want to buy a small (~17 foot) speedboat, but
they are quite expensive here. I see some advertisements here in Denmark
for boats that have to be picked up (afhentes) in Germany.

I suppose it must be for tax reasons, but is it legal to buy a boat in
Germany and just take it into Denmark without paying taxes or registering it
here? Is there anything I should be careful of if I am considering that?

The reason is the difference in VAT (moms); In Germany it is 16% and in
Denmark 25%. In addition to that, some things are cheaper in Germany even
before VAT.

Import from anywhere in th EU, apart from large amounts of booze and
cigarettes, is perfectly legal as long as you do it yourself, i.e. you have
to bring the boat into Denmark yourself. Thats the Inner market.

For that reason, most new (larger) boats sold to Danes are delivered in
Germany.

I find it worth mentioning that driving a speedboat i danish waters requires
a drivers licence - unlike many other countries.

Nope. As long as you bring it here yourself, by road, sea or air...

Try to contact your frindly boatyard and hear if there is any problem
mhaving your new [fill in model] delivered in Germany, and I think they
would be surprised if anyone wanted it here.

In that respect, there is no difference between boats and refrigerators.

And if you can save 500,000x0,09-expenses, that should easily pay a few
extras.

Florida, MarineConnection Mr. Daren Somero (good guy - good service) -
second
time I bought it from a private in Georgia - who drove it down to the dealer
in Florida (MC) - that then took care of the transport to Bremerhaven.
