Rumor Debunked: Lion King DVD Will Be Special--AND Platinum!
Several readers had strong reactions to yesterday's story that Disney
decided to refer to The Lion King DVD as a "Special Edition," therefore
possibly trying to get away from the "Platinum Edition" terminology as some
feared. "This really does not mean anything," 'Sgon' writes. "If you recall
in the Beauty And The Beast DVD preview in last years Atlantis: The Lost
Empire DVD the release was called Beauty and the Beast: The Special Edition,
and it was included in the Platinum Edition." Jakes adds that "The Lion King
WILL be released as a Platinum Edition DVD. 'Special Edition' refers to the
new cut of the film with the new animation and new musical sequence 'The
Morning Report.' Special Edition refers to an edited cut of the film a la
the Star Wars Trilogy Special Editions, and Platinum Edition refers to the
DVD.
