Hej

TDC Internet no longer carries vendor hierarchies, except for a very
small number that have established themselves to conform to the
practices of Usenet as a whole, and therefore appear in the default
control.ctl file distributed with INN that allows the hierarchy
maintainer to keep control of the hierarchy automatically. This is
because several vendor hierarchies are not meant to be part of usenet
and only appear due to unauthorized `suck' feeds, and I have received
several mails from different vendors requesting that their groups not
be carried.
Also see notes at the top of
ftp://ftp.isc.org/usenet/CONFIG/HIERARCHY-NOTES
which is where you can find an example of the control.ctl file listing
those hierarchies that distribute their postings and configuration info.
These private vendor hierarchies can be read from the vendors' news
machines or web interfaces, as is intended by their owners. Further
discussion of this may be found in news.admin.net-abuse.usenet from a
couple months ago, where representatives of a hierarchy asked that all
newsadmins remove it from their machines. Postings made to the so-called
`mirrors' of these froups on other servers often never make it back to
the authoritative servers and therefore are never seen by the intended
audience, among several other problems.
