 The Haze

 Westernwind has been in a haze lately. Not because of the weather, though;
the Haze is a state of mind. Produced by the secretive Thieves Guild in
Westernwind, the Haze is a powerful drug that heightens sensation, produces
euphoria and makes everything glow aswas it imbued with magic. Naturally,
this drug has already been taken to the hearts of many in Westernwind, from
the many homeless and desperate in the slums, to the filthy, decadent rich
 and noble.

But the drug has a price, both in coin and spirit. It causes a horrible
addiction that manifests itself not only mentally, but also physically.
Without the drug, addicts find their skin greying, their hair and teeth
begin to fall out, and a sickening smell begins to emanate from the addict.
Haze-addicts can be spotted a mile away.

The players who arrive in Westernwind must decide which side they will join.
This may be done through alignment (yet to be decided). They can join the
Thieves guilds and their mission to hook everyone in Westernwind on the
Haze, or they can join the city guards and once and for all rid the city of
 this horrible scourge.

Players taking the evil road of the drug face many perils as they sell,
distribute and manufacture the drug. The townsguard is strong, and the local
Mayor is cracking down on the Haze with the many resources of rich
Westernwind. But the rewards are plentiful: a vial of Haze sells for up to
1000 gold. Of course, players will have to start out slow in the slums, and
create a network for their illegal distribution of the drug. Not to mention
the players from the other side who will attack any supplier of the Haze
without hesitation...Winning the game for these players will be to attain a
profit sum of at least 100.000 gold pieces. Another possible victory option
is to obtain a large number of addicts.

Players of the good alignment will be hunting the players supporting the
Haze-production. Their rewards will also be great, as Westernwind is a
wealthy city. Guards of law and order will receive rewards that easily
matches those of the profits of the thieves guild. The ultimate quest for
these players will be to infiltrate the Thieves Guild, kill the
manufactorers and destroy all the equipment used for production of the Haze,
thus winning the game. It is also a vital objective to deliver the anti-dote
to the addicts of Westernwind, thus reducing the market and selling price of
 the drug.

Haze can be bought in the Thieves Guild at a price determined by how many
laboratory sites are running (maximum of 10). Each site (meaning a room
containing a laboratory table) produces one vial of Haze in 1 minute of game
 time.
Haze sells depending on following factors: amount of time since last dose,
amount of time since last anti-dote, wealth level of addict. Haze sells at a
minimum of 10 and a maximum of 1000 gp.

The anti-dote for Haze makes it impossible for the addict to enjoy the Haze,
and reduces his want for it. It wears off in time. The addicts need for the
Haze is determined by a local variable (0-100, this affects selling price).
The anti-dote is FREE and collectable from the town guard's barracks. The
barracks produce 1 vial of anti-dote a minute.

 Areas

The barracks of the Town Guard
(Seargent, armorer and weapons smith, potion seller, guards, table with
 variable amount of anti-dote.)

 Slums (3 areas)

5 randomly walking addicts in each area.
 1 NPC guard walking randomly
average price for Haze: 100 gp

 Nobleman's district (2 areas)
 2 randomly walking addicts
 8 guards
Average price for Haze: 500 gp

 Thieves guild
(Laboratory wizards making the Haze, equipment sellers, guards)

 Layout of areas:
One idea is to make it linear, like this

Barracks - high end dist - high end dist - slum - slum - slum - thieves
 guild

meaning you can only travel east and west(which makes for good balanced
player-vs-player gameplay), but other suggestions are welcome.

 Various development ideas:

The players may have to PERSUADE people into (or out of) using the drug
through intelligence checks. This will open the game for a larger variety of
characters. This also means that we will have lots of normal townsfolk
walking around that can be lured into (or out of) addiction to the Haze.

The two sides have to be perfectly balanced in terms of amount of players,
 player equipment, gold, etc.

The mod will only accept locally stored characters. This makes for a more
 balanced game and avoids cheating.
