Open the Control Center and then double-click the Email Scanner. You will find an area called Installed plugins with a drop down arrow to view the plugins from. When you click on the drop down arrow you only want to see listed the AVG MS Outlook extention plugin and no other one. If you see another one.. I will instruct you on how to reconfigure AVG so it is correct. If this is correct... skip the next paragraph and go to the one following it.
If it isn't the MS Outlook extention or if there are more than one listed, you need to reconfigure it. To do this properly without messing up your AVG, you must get the latest AVG install file from [free.grisoft.com] and save it to your hard drive. Next run that file and when it gives you the option select Add/Remove components. When you get to the email area of the wizard select Advanced, then make sure that the only plugin selected is the MS Outlook plugin and finish the wizard. You will probably need to update the virus definitions and then reboot just to make sure it all takes.
Now, we need to see that you actually have it set to Certify mail. Still in the Email Scanner area.. click the Configure button and you should find two options both labeled "Certify mail" one is for incoming and one is for outgoing. Make sure there is a checkmark in each. If you changed it, click the Apply and then the Ok buttons. Now.. just to play it safe.. reboot the computer. (WinXP should not need the reboot, but a few users said it made a difference.)
Now send yourself a test email and then look for the incoming cert at the bottom. The outgoing cert probably won't show.. they normally will be "stripped" out by the incoming ones. If you don't see one, lets test again but this time when you make the test email.. select Text mode after you have made a new test email and send that one. When you get that one back you should see the cert on the bottom.
