With help from the little hacket Firmware from Wasia, You can upgrade the camera to be able to give You the same operating functions as the 3-4000 d.kr. more expensive 10 D.
It gives ability to some of the features from the 10D, which were not put in the 300 D.
As an example it,s possible to adjust the flash, up to ISO 3200.
Shooting photos in RAW, and possibility to choose quality in the RAW-file.
And much more advantages.
REMEMBER: YOU ARE MOVING OUT INTO A "GREY ZONE" WHERE YOU MIGHT DESTROY YOUR CAMERA AND LOOSE GUARANTEE.
I have been using the Wasia B7.1 firmware since 16th july 2004, without problems.
And since 15th March 2005 I used the UnDutchables v. 0.1.0 with no problems as well.
NB: I can not be held responsible for any use of this guide or firmware.
Errors and defectives may occur due to the firmware, and therefore using it, will be at your own risk.
Does Canon have any intentions to release an official update to the firmware, giving the possibility to unlock these functions?
Answer:
I don't know, but I don't think so.
Is it possible to go back to the original firmware?
That is possible and does not cause any problems.
Install the original firmware, but remember before doing that, to reset ALL custom-functions ( C.Fn.) (0,0,0,0,0,1,0,11,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0)
If you have reinstalled the original firmware without setting the custom-functions (C.Fn) to default values, you must either reinstall Wasia B7.1, set default values and then install the original firmware, or you can remove both batteries (main + backup/block) for 5 minutes and then put them back.
Is there any problem using the hacked firmware?
Answer:
Ther is ONE problem: If you change language, the camera might break down, but if it does, just remove the batteries and put them back shortly after.
There will always be a risk by changing the software in a camera by hacking, and if the operation fails you might expect to loose every guarantee.
Is it legal?
Answer:
Yes, because it is your camera and you can treat it the way you like.
And the "funny" thing about the hacked firmware is, that it does not bring any new operating functions to the firmware.
They are already in there, but the unlocking makes it possible to use it.
But it is a modification of the firmware though.
But the difference between the original Canon firmware and the Wasia B7.1-key is down to byte level ( 253 modified bytes)
NB: If you for some reason must send in the camera for repairs or service in the periode og guarantee, of course you must reinstall the original firmware, but remember before doing that, to set ALL custom-functions ( C.Fn) (0,0,0,0,0,1,0,11,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0,0)
What about service at Canon's ?
Answer:
Reinstall the original firmware befor sending the camera to Canon.
If the camera is not working, send it, and hope for the best
Language in the new firmware, Danish or English?
Answer:
If Danish before installing the cracked version, the language will be Danish afterwards also.
Wher to use the Mirror Lock?
Answer:
By shooting Macro with the camera on a stand.
It opens up the mirror one second before the picture is taken, and so the mirror opening will not "shake" the photo.
